Cog railway

The Cog Railway is one of the most remarkable railway experiences in Northern Bohemia. This unusual mountain railway runs from Tanvald through Desná and Kořenov all the way to Harrachov, revealing the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains from a different perspective. It is a trip where the destination is not just a place on the map, but the journey itself.

The railway line between Tanvald, Kořenov and Harrachov is both a technical monument and a living story of mountain rail travel. Steep gradients, tunnels, bridges and views into the valleys recall a time when crossing the mountains by rail required courage, precision and exceptional engineering. Thanks to its cog railway system, the line earned its Czech nickname Zubačka and still attracts railway enthusiasts, families with children and visitors heading into the mountains.

The Cog Railway Museum in Kořenov is also well worth a visit, presenting the history of the line, its technical background and the work of the people connected with the mountain railway. The railway atmosphere is further enhanced by the Engine Shed, a place where the technical heritage of the line comes vividly to life.
